Building A Cohesive Worship Team

BUILDING COHESION IN THE WORSHIP TEAM

As a worship team we tend to grow to a place where we are mechanical and programmed. We meet to rehearse; we meet to sing… put it on repeat. Even with the same purpose, vision and mission relationships need to be built because relationships build cohesion.

We build cohesion through

1. Prayer

Prayer beyond the usual prayer before rehearsal or before and after singing. Have moments of prayer where you can share prayer needs. Sharing lets you know you are not alone and breeds encouragement

2. Fellowship

Have moments of fellowship where you

Study the word

Testify

You get to build each other spiritually and know each other deeper

3. Engage in leisure activities

hiking, bowling, card games etc. This breaks the monotony of just talking about songs, keys, tempo, solos, instruments, lyrics etc.

4. Share meals together

Go out to eat, cookouts, potluck etc. Meals bring people together and creating a bond. They break the ice and create a good atmosphere for conversation

5. Retreat / conference

Invest in going to a retreat or conference together where you can receive ministry, learn, grow, and mingle with other teams

6. check on each other

A phone call, txt, email….it can be as simple as a hello, just checking on you. This shows that you care for each beyond the gifts and talents that you share

  1. Very practical tools to create cohesiveness. I will try to emphasise om outings amongst our worship team. Do you think that dressing can play a part in enhancing or destroying cohesion among team members?

    1. Dressing is important. it is the image of the team and the organization/ministry/church. Dressing conveys a message. as a team we all need to relay the same message.
